Finding the StyleVAR based on CSS

I'm very comfortable editing CSS. I'm using Firefox, with Web Dev Tools and Firebug to tell me what the CSS, is. For example on the Search button on the nav bar is .globalsearch .searchbutton

My problem is trying to find the right Style Variable for the CSS I want to change, for each CSS controlled element on the site.

Is there a reference somewhere so I can use the Style Variable editor, or should I edit the CSS files directly instead?
