Converting SMF 1.1.x to vBulletin
Hi.
I want to convert my Simple Machines Forum to vBulletin. Now I want to ask some thing to be sure to do this: 1) is it an easy or difficult process? 2) are there some problem about users' password?? Like they have to change their password after converting or similar? Waiting for your reply, Best Regards |

Easy and difficult are relative. There is a tool, Impex, that allows you to import, if it works for your version it shouldn't be too bad.
Passwords will all need to be reset. |

Thanks for your replies!
Now my forum version is 1.1.16, I think that Implex will support this! After I have an other question: how can users reset their password? Whit an automatic wizard at first access on new forum? Or how? Thanks very much! |

They will have to use the "lost password" link and a new password will be emailed to their address on file.

Thank for your reply! In next days I think I'll purchase vBulletin board
But I don't link the style of last vBulletin version 4.0.x ... it's very different from layout of 3.8.x version! Now I want to ask: how can I have the style of 3.8.x version? Do I have to download 3.8.x (if it is possible, I don't know!)? Or are there some themes that make version 4.0.x layout very similar to 3.8.x version? Thanks for your replies! |

You can download and install either vBulletin 3.x or 4.x with your license. However I would strongly suggest you download 4.x, as 3.x is very old and hasn't bee developed for years now.
There is a "Vbulletin 3" style for VB4 available here: https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=275621 This is a VB4 Style that looks a lot like VB3 used to. You cannot use actual VB3 styles in VB4, they are incompatible. |

I would advice you the same thing BirdOPrey5 above. It would be much better to go with vb 4.1.x rather than the older series, 3.8. The look should not be important but the security should be the most important thing you have to take into consideration imho.
