Using Email in vB with Google
I have been running a site for over 7 years or so now. We have been sending emails out several times a year to all of our members.
Over time, we started getting a TON of returned emails back. Come to find out, we got blacklisted by Yahoo, Google, AOL, etc .... So, we tried to the GoDaddy thing. Paid for an entire year and come to find out, it didn't work. For some reason GoDaddy could not get the DNS servers to work with our domain since our domain is not hosted on GoDaddy. So now we have paid our Server Company to setup the Google Apps thing for us. I have entered the email, smtp information, username, password, and the ports for gmail, and I am getting errors when trying to send out emails. We also want our emails to have some sort of automatic remove feature so that members who wish to not receive emails can click on the link and it will automatically remove them any future emails that we send out in the future. We thought that Google did that. We also thought that once the Google thing was set up, it would automatically import all of our users to the contact list so that we could send emails from within GMail. This didn't happen. This whole email issue is really starting to get on my nerves and I am at wits end on trying to figure all of this stuff out. We really need to send out emails to our members and we cant because of the whole blacklisted thing. Can someone that has knowledge or knows how to set this up, please respond here and give me some helpful instructions on getting this set up. |
