Moderation tool dropdown stays zero?
Hi, I need help...
On my forum, the Moderation Tools dropdown box for moving threads, etc. stays zero no matter how many threads I select. Does anyone know how I can fix this? I can put ticks in one or 20, or whatever and it makes no difference... it still stays Zero. Please, I need help... I literally have thousands to move and it would take months to move all of them one at a time. It's also the same issue when in Personal Messages area... it doesn't recognise that any of the boxes are ticked/selected. See attached... |

The number that shows in the button is put there bey JavaScript and maybe you have some mod on the page that wasn't written correctly and there's some sort of JavaScript interference going on. All that's just for show, it will probably still move the threads. Go ahead and check some threads and then in Moderation Tools click View Selected Threads and see what you have.

Thanks for the reply nerbert.
I've tried using it anyway, but it gives me an error message saying I haven't selected anything. I'm now also having an issue with if I move one manually and unticked the box so a "MOVED" thread notification isn't left behind, it still leaves one anyway... and if I delete that "MOVED" one, it actually deletes the real thread too. Which isn't good.. because I didn't realise it straight away and ended up deleting two important ones. I'll have to look at what mods I installed and see if I can work out what one is causing these issues.... as I only have a week to find it and fix the problem (I reopen my website in 1 week). |

You might try disabling JavaScript in your browser and see what happens. If you check a checkbox and submit a form the selected checkbox input should come through with the other form inputs unless JavaScript has unchecked them. Once you're done you can re-enable JS but at least you're getting the job done (maybe!)

Thanks, but that's not working to fix anything, even temporarily either.
Does anyone know where the code is that controls the moderation tools? If I can find that, I might be able to find what part of the code is screwed up. |

I think sometimes a javascript error keeps things from working right on a page. Do you have Firebug (a Firefox addon) or some other js error consile installed?

I have firebug installed, but it's not effecting the other website that's basically the same, so it can't be that. Also, that shouldn't be causing the issue with the "Moved" thread issue I'm also getting. see post #3.
--------------- Added [DATE]1328526283[/DATE] at [TIME]1328526283[/TIME] --------------- Okay. What we've done was followed Lynne's advice and found that the core problem was caused by a style modification we've done. So we know it's not a third party mod or a corrupt vBulletin file. We made sure of this by following Steve's advice by running a diagnostics check for suspect files. The best solution for now is to keep the vanilla skin in the background and then launch our site with 95% of the things we've customised/added error-free. We'll have to go through a template and style comparison between the new skin and the vanilla skin and make the changes in the vanilla skin as we along. Hopefully, with the checks we make each time we modify the code until we're 100% certain it all works. Then we do a skin change without any hinderance to the user on the front-end. It's a lot of work, but it ensures that we've followed through without any stuff-ups. If anyone's interested, my husband and I will launch our site and post an indepth analysis of how we went about redesigning our site using the existing vBulletin code, the mods we found here + everything else we had to learn about web design in as little as 6 months. For now, thanks for all your help. It means a lot to have a community still strong on making vBulletin a friendlier platform. |
