What am I doing wrong...? (uploading header/banner)
I have a header I'm trying to install to my server for my vB4 site.
I'm logging in to the Hostgator CP, going to file manager, selecting the 'images' folder, then selecting the 'misc' folder. I try to upload the file and all I get at the bottom right hand corner of the screen is a small grey upload bar that says "Starting upload" and absolutely nothing happens. I've tried it numerous times and nothing is happening. Am I doing any of this right in the first place...? If I'm on the right track, where am I going wrong. If I'm not on the right track then I need some serious direction! (I'm very new at this, just so everyone knows). |

I would try using an actual ftp client like filezilla.

I have the file uploaded - how do I find it's "proper URL"...??
I keep thinking I have it but every time I reload the site the header isn't visible..... |

You have to set the image path
Style Manager > Style Variable Editor > ImagePaths > titleimage |

You can figure out if you have the correct url by entering it in to your browser and seeing if the image comes up. So are you trying to make your new image show up in vbulletin by overwriting an existing image? If not then you probably need to edit a template to insert the new image.

The standard "vbulletinlogo.png" is what's there right now. I have the image I want as the banner - I uploaded it and put in the URL for it and it doesn't come up.
Edit a template...?? Interesting. Never done this before - where exactly do I go....?? --------------- Added [DATE]1326983424[/DATE] at [TIME]1326983424[/TIME] --------------- I must not have the right URL..... How / where do I find the proper URL in the Hostgator File Manager....?? |

Actually I just reread what nerbert posted above, I guess it's a style variable so that probably means that you don't need to edit any templates.
The url should be the url to your forum with "/images/misc/" and then the file name. ETA: ...and it looks like the default titleimage value is "images/misc/vbulletin4_logo.png", so you don't need the entire url, you should just be able to change the filename part (which you've probably done already, so I guess I'm not helping much). |

Here's part of (what I think might be) the problem -
I use the FTP to upload the image, and it uploads to it's own folder in the file manager. Whenever I try to move the file to the /images/misc folder, it "looks" like it goes there because the selected file disappears as if it was moved. But when I go to the /images/misc folder the file isn't in there. When I try to search in the file manager to find out where it went, nothing comes up as if the file was never uploaded. |

I've never had any problem uploading an image. In cPanel open the appropriate folder then click the "Upload" button at the top of the page. You should get a new window, click "Choose File" and you'll get a popup where you can navigate to the image on your computer. On rare occasions the upload fails because of some connection glitch but then you just try again. If you don't get the upload window you should contact your hosting service.
