Where is the best place to add Google Analytics tracking code so it only comes up once per page and isn't overwritten on updates?

No love on this? I'm a newb, please help... I did a lot of searching and could link the threads I found, but most said to add it to the footer or headinclude areas... Only problem is when I go to do that in my Style Manager it says it's inherited from a parent style and doesn't let me edit. I don't really want to screw stuff up, so that's why I asked, help!
