Can I generate mod_rewrite URL from threadid?

If I only have the thread id, can I use some sort of function to find the mod_rewrite url?

1234 -> http://www.site-example.com/forums/threads/1234-thread-title-here

I was able to do this with a VBSEO function on one of my forums, but I dont have VBSEO on my other forum
