Customizable License Plate Mod Needed

There are 2 hacks that do almost this already but they cant be customized. I would love to see this adapted so members can customize and save the plates they create.

Hmm..I wonder if it would work to overlay the text "on the fly", as opposed to creating a custom image for each user? Because I know that it's not that hard to modify an image by placing text on it to create a new image, but managing those images might be a chore.

If you could do it "on the fly" you'd only need to have a couple custom profile fields, one to choose the state and another to save the text.

I also wouldn't want to be the one to deal with figuring out the text color and placement for every state (for instance, playing with site that you linked to, I notice some states seem to automatically divide the text into two segments).

Anyway, you could easily create a state chooser custom profile field, then edit postbit to include the chosen image (probably you have that already, or there are mods for that). So if we could figure out how to overlay text (like using css or javascript), you'd pretty much be there.

I was thinking about the same thing. The only thing I would add is the ability for the member to save the image either to their profile or computer.

There's 2 hacks for getting the profile fields set up its just the overlay and ability to save the new plate created that's got me stuck.

Yeah, saving it would be a different issue. Maybe it would be better to just bite the bullet and figure out the custom image management issues.

In any case, doing a little searching, it looks like you can overlay text on images via CSS, so you could probably get it to display in postbit just by adding custom fields and putting some code in the postbit template.

Okay so i have decided to take this on as i am almost complete with it..

If you can provide me with the blank license plates I could finish this up and write a tut on how to go about installing it.

I actually finished this i just dont have license plates i only have one that im using.. Im going to try and find some i suppose
