Under the admin panel, go to "maintenance" then "update counters" then "rebuild forum stats".

Then you can:
look at admin panel, and then "scheduled tasks" then "scheduled task manager' and make sure they have all run "today" if they needed to.

Lastly, do "repair optimize tables" on a regular basis as well.
