I'm sure this has been discussed in length in the past, but I just changed my Human Verification settings yesterday so I'm interested (at the moment). The problem with the selection you're referring to is the limited number of correct answers. All a bot has to do is reregister and select a different one each time and eventually they get in.
What I did yesterday, which has basically stopped all the spam completely for now, was to ask a question that has a random word for an anwer. In my case, I happened to have a title splash image on every page, including the registration page, that had four different photos. I asked, "At the top of this page, what is pictured in the image second from the right?". Its perfect because most PEOPLE wouldn't know the answer to it, except for those who are trying to join the forum (its related to the forum). The four photos are all on one image file (.jpg), so there is no reference to the answer or related topic in the name of the image file. This isn't anything new, but it happened to work well for me, and took about three minutes to do! 8-) Dan |
