My registration verification emails are going into people's SPAM folder...
Is there a way to reduce the likelihood of this happening? They're coming from admin@mydomain.com.

In vBulletin Options -> Email Options are you using SMTP mail? I've heard people get better results using SMTP then the built in mail client.

i saw that and i tried to get the SMTP to work and it didn't. i kinda gave up too quickly so i'll try it again. the host isn't being very helpful and they're obviously blaming everything but themselves. however, i'm getting every other forum's emails. typical.

For SMTP host it's actually better/faster to use the IP address of your mail server, saves from having to do a lookup. If you have shared/VPS/Dedicated hosting it is almost always the same IP address as your web server.
SMTP Port This *used to be* port 25 but due to so many viruses using port 25 to send mail a lot of hosts now use non-standard port numbers so you will need this info from your host- usually it's in your welcome email or on their site somewhere. Port 26 is becoming pretty popular these days. SMTP Username - on shared hosting this is usually your full email address OR your full email with a plus sign (+) in place of the @ sign... SMTP Password - your email password, pretty self explanatory. Secure Connection - probably just "None" The info you really need from your host is the port number... the rest you should create yourself- usually you can setup SMTP mailboxes through your cpanel or other custom interface your host provides. You obviously need to set one up before doing this. You could make sure it works by putting this info into Outlook Express or some other email client to test it from your computer first, or just run the email test from vBulletin itself. |
