I'm getting a number of database errors emailed to me. I have not done any upgrades or changed anything on my forum. This seems to have started a few days after I had to have my ISP reboot the database server because the forum wasn't running and was reporting a database error. After the reboot, all seems to be working fine, I have no issues accessing the forum or doing anything, but keep getting errors emailed to me. I backed up the database and when through several of the database maintenance tools and those all seemed to run fine too.
I'm at a loss at this point. Does anyone have suggestions to check and clean up the database? I don't want to try and post all the errors I'm getting so I just post a couple different ones as examples: Most of the recent ones seem to be like this first one. Perhaps something changed after some of the maintenance tools were run. Any suggestions would be great! Bump....
Still getting various errors, but I can't seem to find any issues with the forum. The errors just keep occuring after running all maintenance operations on the database. |

Those are server issues. I'd suggest talking to your host about the errors.

I've checked with my Web Host, they are saying that MySQL 4 servers can easily get overwhelmed and have all sorts of issues. My website is very stable, but they have been needed to reboot the database server at my request in the past 6 months or so. I'm seeing warning emails on the hour at certain times of day and by the time I check, all seems good. Thinking some batches may be be running on the same server for some other client and it's bogging things down for a few minutes.
Anyone have any other ideas? Do I just ignore the errors? |

You may ignore the errors if you want. But, I will tell you it isn't normal for a site to spit out errors all the time.

I agree, but I'm not sure what to do at this point. I'm on a shared server, my site isn't very busy and doesn't warrant a dedicated server. I never had this issue before, the past few weeks, I'm kinda thinking that they have added users recently that are putting a lot of load on the server that wasn't there before. If it's breif bursts in traffic, is there some way I can change settings on my forum so that it's a bit more tolerant of server load issues...maybe increasing timeout times when the forum is trying to access the database?
If not, any suggestions on how to approach the Web Host for help on this? Maybe they need to make some changes on their end? |

There isn't really much you can do on a shared server. You could remove mods and change vbulletin settings to reduce the load that *your* site has on the server, but if they've over sold the server, that just means you are allowing other sites to then use up more load and cause the issue. So, *you* would be playing nice, but that doesn't make the other sites play nice.

My forum has very low traffic, so I'm pretty certain there's nothing I would do that have much of an effect to my own forum from what you are saying. I can't see the point in trying to be nice as it would probably not have a noticable impact to the others anyway.
Thanks. |
