Default Distorted avatars

Hello,
To accomodate for a 273KB gif avatar for Administrator, I changed max pixels (from 80x80 to 100x100) and size (from 20,000 to 300,000 bytes) for Administrator's avatar.

Then applied that (larger avatar allowance) to Supermoderator and Moderator groups.

After that, for one one supermod , I uploaded a 63KB avatar and it got distorted like this:

For an ordinary user (Group: Registered users) I did no change to avatar parametares (default: 80x80 pixels, 20,000bytes) and this 63KB file got uploaded and resized to fit (no action or plugins) and nicely, no distortion. Like this:

I changed back te parameters for Supermod and Moderators group to the default but no change - still distorted as if it keeps previous max size somewhere.

Cleared the browser cache (Internet Options -> Tools -> Delete Files) but still.

I kind of noticed that some of vB support staff on this board have large, simple but distorted avatars. Could that be the same thing that is causing me what i see as an undesired appearance of (distorted) avatars?

I think it is a bug.

Once larger avatar size is allowed, remains and does not care of any right-sizing. Setting it back to any value has no effect.

Avatars for users and groups that had seen no change (to their size in CPanel), do well.

I could be wrong or doing something wrong.

Maybe. Try GD if you're using ImageMagick (or vice versa).

I think it should not need anything. Just like not touched values for user groups that work fine.

In my 1st post it was visible. vB staff can reproduce the problem, I think.

And what the problem might be: once grown avatar size can not be scaled back, not even to vB defaults.

Rebuild counters?

AdminCP > Maintenance > Update Counters

Look for:

Rebuild Custom Avatar Thumbnails
Number of avatars to process per cycle
Include automatic JavaScript redirect to next page?

The second time you tried the images were still close to the original "re-sized" size so not much distortion if any at all took place, until you rebuild counters it will always seemed "mucked up" after you change values like that.

Rebuild Custom Avatar did not change anything.

However, when I went into CPanel, edited the user and manually changed the avatar (to what it was already, just reloaded it) but to

"Resize image to user's maximum allowed dimensions
As defined by their usergroup(s)"
ticked "No",

avatar appeared undistorted.

Users do not have that option and I don't know how they would cope. They may think they are doing something wrong and not report the problem.
