A Long Rant
At the beginning of August 2010, I decided to create a website dedicated to helping artists learn how to copyright, watermark and trademark their work. As an artist and novelist, I have experience because I have copyrighted my own work. People who know about my hobbies come to me for advice. I'm currently in college pursuing a career in Film. I have at least 6 years of experience editing videos. During those 6 years I've met producers, models and recording artists who have also asked me about the copyrighting process.
One thing most people had in common is that they really did not want to go through the effort of copyrighting their own work. It is my intention to write tutorials to teach people how because although copyrighting sites have user manuals and tutorials of it's own, they aren't enough. I think of my site as a 'Copyrighting for Dummies'. Unfortunately, some people do not want to learn how to do it no matter how easy you make it for them. As a result, they offer to pay me to do it for them. I really do not have time to copyright for every person who asks. After much thought I decided to make it a community effort by delegating authority to my friends and colleages who have experience in copyright. Also, I have encouraged those I've asked to join to find plagariasm and copyright infringement of the people we help copyright for. So... I bought vb4 Publishing Suite because I'm comfortable with vBulletin as I've been posting on forums since 2001. It's been two months now. I have lost lots of sleep over my website trying to get it where I want it to be and I'm halfway there. I've spent more time configuring the forums, styles and modifications than I have on the 'Home' tab of CMS. I don't know what came over me maaaaaaaaaaan. I have been obsessed with making my forums the best forum I have ever participated on. I feel like I've found my internet retirement home. I'm that comfortable. There's just one problem. My site is private. I need it to be public. If I'm to write up tutorials and post articles about copyright and articles discussing and linking to instances of plagiarism and copyright infringement then it must be public for those people who are randomly find my site on a google.com search. When they find my site I hope that they learn more about the copyrighting process, how no one is exempt and how anyone can be considered a copyright holder when they know their rights. This is why my site is private. https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=251786 I need Global Ignore Usergroups and a Forced Ignore that is similar to Global Ignore BADLY. In the first paragraph I mentioned models. In the past, I've edited and watermarked many pictures and video clips for models who have asked me for help. I still do occasionally. Last night I added a model to my website and while I was setting up her profile and adding photos that I edited for her to an album in her Gallery, a guy sends her account a private message. She hasn't even posted yet and a guy has already sent a THIRST pm. I do not want my site to be filled with horny dudes SPAMing up chick's inbox before they can even get one post in. I did not read that guy's private message. I don't care. I just don't want my people's being ran off by spam. Some of these models have stalkers. These model's complaints are the only reason I made my site private in the first place. I do not want them to be ran off by stalkers and horny thirst PMs while I'm trying to help them. I do not want my site to remain private just because they have stalkers. There are other people who need to learn bout copyrighting that I want to link to my site. People shouldn't have to join my site just to learn something. They shouldn't have to register just to learn but for right now they have to because of the model's +++++ing. That's why I need the Global Ignore Usergroups and enhanced Forced Ignore Function. Man I've tried everything. From regular vBulletin options such as creating Private Forums, Usergroups with limited privileges, such as not being able to view profiles, disabling 'Who's Online?' and the Member List. I've tried modification such as Limited Guest Viewing System, Limited Viewing Permissions such as 'registered member must have ___ posts before being able to view the contents of this thread', Guest Cannot See Avatars, Guests can't see Links or Images, Guests only see First Post, Guests can only view a couple pages before being forced to register, Guests Can't Right-Click. My site is really laid back. There hasn't been any articles posted yet because I'm still focused on pimping the site out. My current project besides begging people on vbulletin.com and vbulletin.org for a Global Ignore Usergroups function (even offering to pay) is trying to find a points system that will let me reward my members for posting CMS articles about copyrighting or random blogs about whatever. I haven't found anything yet. I'll keep looking later today. I have to go to work in 5 hours. Time to sleep. /end Rant. |

So you haven't gotten any response to your request to pay for help? That's interesting - I've never tried to get paid for anything here, but I assumed that there were plenty of people watching that forum trying to get work.

I've never looked into it, but I would imagine it wouldn't be that hard to modify the global ignore text area to use usergroups instead. You can do a search in the files for wherever it uses the query and see about modifying it to use usergroups instead of userids.
But really, you made your request a couple of days ago, right before a three day weekend. I'd give it a bit of time. Also, try google to find other admin sites where you can put in your request for a developer to write you a mod. Moved to vB4 General since the Lounge isn't for discussing vB issues. (Any why do you bold your posts? I feel like you are yelling at me.) |

I try to do everything myself and do not like to delegate too much authority to moderators. If people can global ignore either a single user or a entire usergroup and remain hidden from them, it relieves me of a lot drama I would otherwise have to deal with or ask someone else to handle. I think it's a great idea and am surprised there isn't a modification created for it. --------------- Added [DATE]1286761483[/DATE] at [TIME]1286761483[/TIME] --------------- Quote:
Plus my eyesight sucks. I originally created this thread in general but decided to post it here because I had typed so much. and good Lord at having to go through all this to install something simple. I am not a programmer, a coder, a hacker or any of that. |

LOL @ all the whining and complaining in my first post. Setting up the CMS once I read parts of the manual was so easy that I'm ashamed of myself.

There's a few things you can do get your users to only accept mail & pm from their contacts/friends, make your forum invitation only. As for the article ect not sure if there are mods for that directly but I'm sure a coder could configure vB experience or similar to do that.
