Need A Coder
I hope I am starting this thread in the correct section. If not, mods kindly excuse and move it to the proper section.
I am an admin of a site that is close to 4yrs old and the VBulletin of the site is as old as the site. I became the admin few months back and I am a noob to it all (promoted based on my activity). Vbulletin site shows that our VB license expired in March 2007 itself and no one ever bothered to fix it. I am contacting here to see if I can get any coder to fix the site completely but by migrating the current stats. I would appreciate if someone could give me some tips. |

Well there's a few things going on here...
First the right place to post this if you want to pay someone to do all this is the "Paid Requests" forum on here... but since you're also asking advice I doubt anyone will ever move this post. As for what to do... the expired license is not the end of the world... Who is the decision maker for the site? Is it you? You should decide if you think you ever want to upgrade to vBulletin 4.x or not... if you stay on the 3.x branch vBulletin.com is offering a 3-month renewal option that will give you access to the latest 3.8 version available. You should definitely upgrade to 3.8.x but if you use a custom style you will probably need to do a lot of manual fixes or else lose the customization in the style. If however you think you may want to upgrade to 4.x at some point it's best to buy the 4.x license now, even if you don't want to upgrade immediately you will still get access to all the older versions including 3.8. Has the license been transferred to your name? Will it be? If not you won't be able to buy the discounted upgrade but it is a very small discount so it's not that big a deal- but you need to be the license holder to buy the 3-month extension too. You probably want to get these details sorted before you go looking for a coder. |
