Importing Attachment Question
Hey all,
I have been using Impex to import a 3.8.4 to a 4.0 forum. I ran through everything fine but I had issues with the attachments. To make a long story short, right now I have all the attachments loaded into a directory on the new forum. When I go into Impex now to redo the attachments module it tells me it relies on the post module and I have to do that first. The only problem with that is that I already ran the post module and the posts are on the new site fine. I don't want to rerun that module because it is a very large site and it took hours the first time. I know I could normally just run a couple queries to grab the attachments from the old database and move them to the new one but these are different versions of VBulletin. Is there anything I can do here? I really have to get this finished and this is the only thing holding me back right now.. Thank you guys ahead of time. Please save my life again.. haha Rich |

Were your attachments in the file system or database?

The file system--I find this is usually the easiest way to do these transfers... Not this time though..
Thanks |

Why are you using impex as opposed to the upgrade script included in 4.0?

I had to build a new site and move to a new server and the old site was filled with bugs etc and was 3.8.4... That is neither here nor there though. I really just need to know how to get these attachments added..

The best way to do it is set them to the database first then once everything is running correctly move them to the file system.

So you are saying to import the database with 700megs of attachments inside? No thanks... Actually I meant 7,000 megs...lol
At any rate, currently the attachments are in the file system and most are actually installed already. I cannot run impex because it will not allow me to do so unless I rerun the post module which will take hours. Right now I just need to know if there is a way I can move the rest of the attachments into the new site whether it be the file system or database doesn't matter. I am not exactly sure how to proceed from here. Thanks so much for your replies though. I really appreciate any effort. I have had literally 25 minutes of sleep in the past 2 days so I know I am not think too clearly, like I ever think clearly. haha I have spent many hours rebuilding this site and style and everything is all set minus some attachments.. FYI--The reason the attachments didn't make it through the process is because there were 2 attachments that were too large for php to deal with. I am taking many megs so this is why we stopped. I planned on just redoing the module but ofcourse firefox crashed on me and when I went back in it would not allow me to redo the module. If I am stuck redoing the posts again plus the attachments it means this site will be down for another few hours. This is a fairly large site so the import process just takes for ever... Thanks again.. |

you can add them from the file sysytem
on the impex page for the attachments, it gives you an option as for the location of the attachments. Upload your old attachment folder somewhere on the site, and point to it in impex when you get to the attachment module. and ps.. you can import any size sql dump into your DB, size doesn't matter, at least around a few gig's doesn't matter, you can upload it with SSH in a matter of seconds. |

Yes, I did that Loco but the issue is that Impex will not run. It is giving me a message telling me I have to run the "post Module" first which I already ran. I am not sure if you read my post or not but to rerun the post import will take hours...
I know exactly how to run impex and do as you suggested. That is just what I did in the first place but I ran into problems. Yes, I used ssh but I am talking about the attachments being to large when running impex. Impex crashed because one of the attachments was too large for php to handle... Thanks for your reply. I am getting nowhere with this. I think I am just going to rerun the post module and the attachment module should run fine now that I deleted the very large attachments. It is just more time is all and I am a tired little baby right now. If anyone does have the answer though let me know FYI--This is the message I get from impex PHP Code:
Thanks guys, I have this figured out now but I really appreciate the advice etc. Take care, Rich |
