Caching Mechanism
Hello, please can someone point me in the correct direction to this problem and if there is a plug-on / solution to this problem.
My website was taken down earlier due to a high load on the hosting server. The person suggested a "caching mechanism" where the script does not need to generate a new page with every request which helps to lower the over load that a script will cause." Is there a tool/plug-in which can help do this? |

You need to have your provider give you the details of what they are accusing your site of doing to cause the server to crash.
Post the details here of what the host gives you. |

Hello,
I apologize, but I was forced to suspend scripts under the directory "/home/ab3530/public_html/" as multiple scripts were causing a a high load on the server, and due to the nature of the problem, I forced to take immediate action for the health of the server. Unfortunately I do not have any specific recommendations for these scripts, however, in general, adding some sort of caching mechanism, where the script does not need to generate a new page with every request, helps to lower the over load that a script will cause. Likely the original author or support group of the software that you are using will be able to help you to understand how to add something of this nature. If you reply back to this with your IP address (http://www.hostgator.com/ip.shtml) we will be more than happy to go ahead enable HTTP access for you, so that you can safely work on the script without it causing further issues. Please let us know how you would like to proceed. 18:22:03 up 2 days, 18:55, 1 user, load average: 74.86, 43.90, 25.98 |

Im sorry, but a opcode caching program probably wont solve your issues, if your generating loads of 70+, you have problems that need to be solved first.
Is this a dedicated server that your renting from hostgator? |

You can start by disabling your modifications, especially if you are using a chat/shoutbox as these are often causing a high load.

For a moderator on this modification website you seem to fail the basics of advice giving . That could actually do more harm than good since it's probably the modofications that made his website what it is today. You need a better server and opcode caching combined with xcache or memcache could do some good.

@ Brandon
Telling a person they need a new server because the site is generating a 70+ load, that's bad advice in itself, i don't think your the one that understands the basic concept of "advice giving", there are many factors in why it could be doing that, bad query, corrupt table (not a crashed table), bad key, corrupt index(s) etc. I asked if the user is renting a dedicated server for a reason, Marco cut to the chase and went for the gusto, which might be the issue, the next step would be to re-enable them one at a time to find out which one might be causing the issue he is experiencing. So how does one justify "giving advice" telling a person to get a new server that may cost him more money, it don't correct the issue at hand, especially an issue that's unknown at this point? |

In order to give an advice we will first need to find what the cause of the problem is, just as Anthony also replies. Disabling modifications is the first step as these are one of the unknown factors.
