Hi,
Uploaded the files on a new server. Get as far as the "Please Enter Your Customer Number", I enter it and it says redirecting... then goes back to the 'Please Enter Your Customer Number' page. Error on the server? |

It might be a wrong customer number OR something wrong with your browser.
If you sure your customer number is correct then try disable any toolbars in your browser, or even try with another browser if possible. |

Hi,
Thanks for the reply. The customer number is correct (I did a dummy run on another server and it was fine). I have tried a few browsers so those are not the issue. Anyone else suggest what it is wrong? |

You have upload the vbulletin files from the license number which matches the URL @ vbulletin.com
Here is how i found this out i do alot of sites and i uploaded My vbulletin files (leeched from my license) and went to add my mates customer number in. Just would not work at all So i log in his account leeching the vbulletin files from his license, uploaded them entered his customer number again and it worked first time But you say it worked on a dummy server hmhmh |

Hi the problem is that the server has given me the address for the site preview as https://boardname.com/install/install/php and it is not installing correctly.
Is there anyway round this? I want to be able to set the board up on the server before I do the DNS transfer from my current board. I don't really want to take my old board down for too long but it appears this is going to have to be the case...i.e. DNS switch, then database switch, then edit the template files etc. I, ideally, need to do the DNS switch last, but I can't get the installation sorted until the propogation has happened??? |

the https shouldnt cause a issue, if you enter it and then get redirected to a non https add., then that would cause a issue.
the main thing to look at is the fact your trying to use a url on a server with no site assigned to it, so use the ip or servername instead. what you need to do actually is NOT install a new setup, you simply need to transfer your current site to the new server. 1. close board 2. dump db 3. tar up current working forums dir 4. ftp it all over to new server 5. setup new db & user perms on server & import db 6. untar file backup to new directory. 7. fix config.php on new server 8. access it via ip |

OK, thanks
Please confirm. If I install vbulletin on my PC as I would do on my new server, get the db from my current PHPbb site, convert the db using that impex tool (which seems to work), do all my template editting etc on my PC then ftp all the files to my new server, then take current board off, sort DNS (and the other things you mention) the only down time I'll have is when I am sorting the DNS. Simple. |

You can convert your phpbb on the new server or your home pc, doenst make much difference there.
Basically yes, the only down time is the dns change, but a simple note to users & a redirect on old server solves that issue. |
