Default How do I carry forums across domains?

Right, we have 2 domains and wish to have one forum category to show on both instances of vBulletin on both domains. Is this easy or difficult to do?

I am sure I seen a thread on this done in the past, but I cannot seem to find it now.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you.

Perhaps, I didn't explain myself correctly.. Here's the brief idea. If I point the other domain to the other, that will just duplicate all content and that is not what we require.

Domain1.com/forum
Forum Category 1 <-- Forum Specific to this domain
-- Introductions
-- General
-- Lounge
Forum Category 2 <-- Duplicated Category across domains
-- X - Graphix
-- X - Designs
-- X - Source Files
-- X - Resources

However, domain2.com would show only Forum Category 2 on both domains, but not Forum Category 1 from Domain1.com. Basically, 2 different forums apart from one category of forums.

Domain2.com/forum
Forum Category 1 <-- Forum Specific to this domain
-- Members
-- Design Formats
-- RGB Settings
-- Profiling Settings
Forum Category 2 <-- Duplicated Category across domains
-- X - Graphix
-- X - Designs
-- X - Source Files
-- X - Resources

Regards,

well see you just made it real hard :>
thats more of a permission problem, if I'm reading it right. The domain cannot control content. So vb would have to, and that means you would have to log in to acquire permissions to view, unless its always open to the world. So its not until you have logged in that vb can control these. I think what your asking for is two forums sharing the same database. one setup as 1 and the other setup as 2. So when you goto 1 you see what you want shown ,and when you go in on the 2nd domain you would see only forum category's for domain 2. is this correct?

I think thats it, sharing the database with a setup like that would post only to the specific forums in each individual domain but the shared forums would display posts on both boards.

Please take a look at these sites for example to get an idea:

http://www.m3post.com/forums/

http://www.e90post.com/forums/

You will notice these are two separate domains with two different sets of forums EXCEPT the universal forums listed at the bottom. The who's online section lists all the users online on either domain and even the other domains as well.

I think that's what you just mentioned.. If I have read it correctly.

Regards.

ok i looked are the databases already linked?
or do you have two completely different forums that has its own user database?
in other words can the same user log into each board already? using the same handle

Those two links you provided are vB 3.x perhaps their mods are from here. A few of them should work. vBNetwork or something. But NO vB4 mod can do this as of yet.

Why the hell can't anyone do this, it is so frustrating.

They have it working and I see this question asked ALL THE TIME. Why can't anyone figure this out with VB 4?

Same userbase, different domains, and some shared forums.

Man this is frustrating.
