From the makers of the letters O and Yea comes the hottest 'must have mod' of the season: AME 2.5 - The Return of The Hot Mama.
Thanks everyone for making AME 2.5 Mod of the Month
AME is the multi award winning modification that smartly scans new and edited posts for URLs from a customisable variety of web sites (i.e. YouTube or Amazon or about 200 others). If it finds a match, AME will 'transform' the URL into inline embedded media without your users ever having to even think about it.
It was important for me to create a system that did not need updating (and subsequent reinstalling) every time one of the sites it supported decided to change the way it displayed its media (which is all the fricken time). Therefore I built a system in which the 'definitions' for each site could be imported, exported, tweaked and shared on a whim. This way, you only have to import the definitions that you want. It also allows the vB community to get creative and share definitions that I wouldn't of thought of!
Which sites are supported?
Included in the default installation is YouTube and Amazon. At time of posting this, I believe that there are over 180 sites supported that have been created by the vBulletin community. These range from sites that stream videos to Amazon referral links to locally hosted music and video files.
Check out the 'add ons' section of this post below to see availible add-ons.
Though not tested on any version of vBulletin lower than 3.7.4, in theory it should work on versions 3.5 and higher (just dont quote this bit!).
Big thanks goes out to all those in the community that have supported this mod. Especially Digital Jedi who gives great support on this mod and has created over 160 definitions for this system alone!
Installation/Upgrade
Upload the contents of the forums folder into your forums directory and import the product-ame.xml file into your product manager (if upgrading, choose 'yes' to overwrite previous installation).
After installation, make sure that the system is on (admincp->AME CP->Settings)
Then you may want to try to rebuild old URLs via the tools option.
Change Log
20/1/09 - Uploaded to vb.org
22/1/09 - v. 2.5.2. Adresses a couple minor issues and character sets
For those of you having the YouTube problems, you'll need to be sure you have cleared the content of your Validation Regex. You'll likely also need the YouTube definition from my thread, as that is more current than this one. Remember that changes to your posts have to be made manually, so just changing the definition won't fix anything. You'll need to reedit existing posts and possible resynch your file cache.
Done. Done. Done. And done. Still no go. Simply does not work.
When you say "the YouTube definition from my thread," what does that mean? The one at the top of this thread? Do you have only one thread? I'm cornfused.

I mean that this isn't my modification. I maintain the Master List of definitions, however, in another thread. It's linked in the Add On section.
passiveVid doesn't change the tags like AME does, it's just ... passive. My forum has over 2 million posts and with AME I'd have to spend an hour running the script to update the old youtube links and then spend just as long if I ever needed to uninstall it and didn't want the left-over AME bbcode. With passiveVid all I had to do was click the "update forum counter" option which took like five seconds to run. So for youtube I'd prefer to use passiveVid however I'd like to use this script for everything else.
I already installed passiveVid and AME together on a test forum and the only negative effects that I'm aware of is double videos being posted unless I go into AME manually and delete the definitions for the sites that passiveVid already uses.
What other host of problems are you referring to that I wouldn't be able to undo?
Both AME and passiveVid make changes to your post table. Do a search of this thread for passivevid and you'll see the number of problems that users encountered trying to run them together. On a side note, AME does not leave [AME] BBCode, provided you run the conversion script prior to uninstalling.

I'm sorry to see this functionality go away.
So far not one has let me look at their forum Admin CP to take a closer look at this problem. There's been no change in YouTube or the definition that should keep this from working. There's no other reason why it shouldn't be working. Whatever it is must be unique to your individual forums.

Right now the partner-tag only shows up in the picture-link and the link below the picture.
And all German characters get screwed up. Anything I can prevent this?
Example:
Code:
Fussball-Weltmeisterschaft S?dafrika 2010: Amazon.de: Sven Simon: B?cher
Code:
Fussball-Weltmeisterschaft Südafrika 2010: Amazon.de: Sven Simon: Bücher
Thanks alot

You would need to ask in my thread for that, since this doesn't come with the thumbnail version of Amazon. But you need to edit all instances of the $ameinfo[url].

I just went and searched and I found nothing except the double video issue that is *easily* fixed. As I said, I am running them both on a test site and as long as you deactivate the video sites that passivevid uses on AME then it works fine. I don't know why you guys keep saying otherwise.
So far it doesn't look like there are any conflicts as long as you make one simple change.
Sorry, AME is over-all a superior product but for Youtube passiveVid is better. If there are no negative side effects other than the easily fixed double video issue then I'm running both on my live site...
