OK...I am about to set up a community website for my housing development with forums, calendars, etc. I need something easy, fast to bring online and I don't like painting myself into a corner. (yes I want my cake and eat it too!) I have already pretty much figured out that I want to use vB for the forums, but I need a good CMS. I would love integration between everything when it comes to the user DBs...anyone have any thoughts on this?

I know there were supposed to be people working on integration of PostNuke and phpWebsite with vB. Then I stumble across vBP. It's very confusing to a newbie to the CMS arena.

After I chose something that works with vB, will plug-ins and modules from other nuke-based CMSs work? They all seem to be related somehow, bit I can't figure it all out yet.

Someone may be able to shut me up really quick if there are any good pages out there that I could be directed to that cover this.

Thanks in advance...

Brian

PS - be gentle with me...I know nothing about PHP CMS systems yet...but I am learning very quickly.

Well, I voted anyway. Definetely vbPortal if you want to go with vBulletin. I tried it with phpnuke and it wasn't that easy to integrate. And I think postnuke is pretty much based on phpnuke.

Not to be bashing about must-do-first policy, but I a little annoy every time I see this question, I personally think it should be asked when people asking for support only. Not when strange people jump in, chatting about bin Laden or such.

Unless this site is dedicated for vB owners, and that means no one (non-vbowner) can post anything in this forum, I mean everything in any forum in this site.

My 2 cends, hope you know what I meant.

In this instance I think the question was appropriate. I?m not saying that I disagree with what you said, because what you said did make sense, but in this particular case, brainless is talking about using the product as if he does have the software in his possession or intends to.

The staff requesting his license information could easily be seen as an attempt to determine if what he has possession of, is legal or not. He isn?t just chiming in the mix in a thread and adding to it, he is indicating that he has it or will have it soon and that he wants the opinions of other licensed users.

In no way am I accusing him outright of being a pirate. He could easily be a prospective customer of the software or even an already licensed customer. I see nothing wrong with the Staff?s desire to try and locate and track potential pirates. This is just one method they have available.

Just my opinion. I hope it makes sense and does not offend. It is intended to only convey what I think

He was pretty much asking for support in a round about way. And he got real quiet when asked to provide license information. Draw your own conclusions.

For your information, I am not a pirate. I also private messaged Sinecure when asked saying that I did not own the software, but was considering my options. I felt that it would not be appropriate to repsond directly on the board if I was not allowed. I thought I was allowed to ask questions even if I didn't have the software. Sinecure was very nice and cleared it all up for me.

All I asked was a simple question looking for advice as I would like to set up a community. I write this message not to defend myself, but to say that Sinecure had every right to ask the question.

BTW, FWC, your closed mind assumes too much. If you re-read my message, it is very obvious what I am asking for advice, not support.

(I'm positive I will get flamed for that one.)

All I am asking for is a bit of advice from people who have done this before. My original question still stands...only answered by Orca and Sinecure via a PM...thanks guys.

Not much of a community if everyone is accusing everyone else. I have been reading many messages on this board and this is not usually the case. I hope this is not a growing trend.

Yes, Brianlees did PM me and we cleared everything up. We encourage potential customers to find out as much as they can. Anyway,I encourage Brianless to get as much info about the software and its potential before purchasing.

vbulletin.com has a forum dedicated to pre-sales questions if you are interested.

Now,lets start voting people

Thanks for the help. It would seem that the board may be a bit biased by the voting! That's fine. If I choose to go with vB, which is 99% there, I would want something that is as compatible as possible. The only question I have is do mods need to be ported between the different CMSs? I no nothing about php at the moment and the "nukes" are new to me as well. I am the administrator of my company's Cold Fusion website and we have a custom CMS for that. So, I am familiar with CMS. However, I haven't been able to find a really good "sales slick" type page talking about the "nukes" and vBportal. Any vBPortal "sales like" pages that someone could point me to? Some that might show screenshots of the admin pages and such. phpportal.com and this site looks like they would be good after I get up and running. But, I need the sales pitch....my title is actually "IT Business Analyst" so you can see it rubs off even on things I do outside of work! Can't help it!
