What am I doing wrong? ( moving to another host)
Wow, I can't beleive I have worked over 12 hours today trying to move my website. I can't beleive this is so hard....
So what am I doing wrong? So I'm trying to move my website to another host. I have copied all files to my public_html file and it seems to look correct. Now I am trying to do database. I used the following procedure to backup my database on my orginal website by going into cpanel and using phpmyadmin. I copied these three files to my hard drive. Then I go to my new website cpanel and run the Import per the below directions. However, I can't make a directory to make it look like the orginal (no permission as you can see in pics). I have submitted 4 trouble tickets to my host, but they want to charge for move the site. I really don't mind paying, but I'm one of those guys that want to learn how to do it myself just in case I need to do again. So, that's why I haven't got anywhere for 12 hours... So, what am I doing wrong... Is there any tutorial that are as easy to understand as the ones below (if they had worked)? Thanks in advance for any info you can provide. The directions I used: ----------------------- The snapshot of the old website thats working that I want to move: ---------------------- The snapshot of the new website showing I have no permissions: |

Do you have mySql Database Wizard in your cPanel? If so, it is much easier to create a new database with the same name using the Wizard, then you will have an existing db to import to. You can use the php myAdmin or the cpanel backup wizard after you have created the db with the correct name.
Hope this helps. |

Thanks for the input. Yes, I do have "MySQL Database Wizard". I have watch the video that is embedded with it and did all the steps. For the "database name", I need to name it "navyfami" correct? Or do I need to name them: "Sitemagixprod" and another one called "vbul" ? Thank you for getting me on the correct path...I really appreciate it.... Craig |

It appears you have two databases: "Sitemagixprod" and "vbul". When you use the cPanel database wizard, it will ask you to name the database you are creating, but the navyfami should appear prior to your text entry box.
So, you type in "vbul" and then it creates the database called navyfami_vbul. Just like what your old server had. Now, if you have a different root name on the new server, the "navyfami" will be something else, but it will still create the database. If you are using a different root name (not "navyfami") on the new server, you will most likely need to open the vbul and Sitemagixprod database config.php files and edit them to reflect the new database path on the new server. Do this on your computer with a text editor like WordPad. The old server has a path like this: navyfami_vbul to the database. So, if your new server (when creating the dbs with the wizard) shows a path like: xyz123_vbul for example, then you must update the config files (same file you edited when you first installed vBulletin). Just take it slow and think it through. Most of all, only do ONE thing at a time. After you do it once, it will take longer to explain it than to do it. |
