Default Photoplog replacement?

I've been happily running PhotoPlog on my forum for a few years and it's provided all the functionality I need for a photo gallery. I'm now ready to upgrade to vBulletin 4, but development of PhotoPlog seems to have ended.

Any suggestions on an alternate migration path? If you were running PhotoPlog before your vB4 upgrade, what did you migrate to?

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I am about to upgrade to 4, and have been playing around with coppermine photo gallery. There are several discussions on the interweb that talk about integrating cpg into vb4.

It hasn't stopped. It's under development. No ETA for such an endeavor: http://www.photoplog.com/forum/showthread.php?t=3007

Have you heard any talk of a migration script from Photoplog?

The last update from Morgan was two months ago. That's not an acceptable way to keep paid customers informed of development. Also, that thread is now closed without an explanation.

I imagine it's closed because Morgan already stated in the first post that she wouldn't even be able to look at the new code until vB4 came out, and that the entire system would likely have to be rewritten. The plan is for Pro to be adapted as soon as possible, which could take months and she politely asked not to keep asking again and again, which people in thread did anyway. I know most folks don't understand this, but coding is not something you can really give an ETA on when your the only one doing the entire thing.

Thanks, but I understand how long the development cycle can take. As a paying customer, I also obviously appreciate her efforts to build a reliable gallery.

You're missing the point. How long does it take to post a brief update?

If you don't want people asking for updates, there is a simple fix. Just keep them updated. If it was going to take another two months, I'd happily wait... but we need to know that. In the meantime, my vB4 upgrade is stalled out on one component with no communications from the developer for two months.

Morgan - If you're reading this, would a once a month update be too much to ask for?

I guess what I'm saying is, what do you want to know? It's hard to tell how long something like this is going to take when your the only one on it. You just don't know how long something is going to take until it's done. She could tell you exactly what she did today codewise, but how much meaning would it have for you? What kind of indicator would it be other than token reassurance she's still on it?

I understand why folks want their upgrades, but the only reason I'm stating it here is because I'm seeing folks get mad at developers all over the forum for not keeping them updated on what they did today and how much longer it's going to take for a new version, even on Unsupported mods. Just speaking form experience, when I have a big project to undertake, I stay away from all my sites until the project is finished, otherwise just visiting my site will distract me from what I have to do. It may not be what you'd like, but it's more than probable that the very thing keeping you from getting an update is the very thing contributing to that update coming sooner than later. And I wouldn't have even stated it this way, if she hadn't already reassured everyone that she was working on it.

Also keep in mind that this isn't the only paid modification that she has to upgrade: http://www.thevbgeek.com/showthread.php?t=5360

I just asked for a once a month update. I think it's clear that I'm not asking for what code was updated today. I'm trying to find out (after two months of absolutely no communications) if I'm waiting for something that is still being developed. I'm NOT even asking for when it's going to be done. I'm looking for a "hey, just want to let you all know that I'm still making progress on this" type message. I'm willing to wait and I'm ready to pay an upgrade fee.

I'm not getting mad at a developer of an unsupported mod. I'm inquiry about the status of a paid, supported mod that I've paid $220 in license fees for since 2006.

It takes less than 5 minutes to post an update. That's not going to get in the way of the development work.

I know she has other mods. She's doing a fantastic job of keeping those users up to date also.

How about we just agree to disagree? We're obviously not making any progress with this discussion.

I was only mentioning that in passing. That wasn't the gist of what I was trying to say. In any case, I'm just saying she's assured us there's going to be an upgrade. Which was my initial point. No reason to believe there isn't going to be. And I'm not really sure what an monthly update would say or do to be more reassuring then that.

Your main question, though, was were there any alternatives to Photoplog for vB4. From what I've seen, the most likely candidates to come out first are Photoplog and PhotoPost. But both of those require some major rewrites.

Photopost / vBGallery is looking very nice, but they've already made it clear that they have no interest in writing an import script for Photoplog. For some reason they don't consider it to be a competitor.
