Question about export the styles
I know how to do it since I've done it since version 3.5 and it doesn't seem to have changed but has anyone gotten around the "Invalid File Specified" that I keep getting when I go to upload my new style like I have done several dozen times before successfully, just not in the 4.0 series.
Here is my theme: Secret City Treasures and it's just for my own use unlike many of my themes. I'm still futzing with it since I am trying to figure out all the images versus the style variables. But when I went to download it like I have done for 4 years, and then upload it, it gave me the Invalid File Specified. So I tried in IE8, gave me the same invalid file. I did find it in the bug tracker in RC 4 but no mention of it being fixed or even being worked on. Yet others manage to get themes made and uploaded, how? Liz --------------- Added [DATE]1264220099[/DATE] at [TIME]1264220099[/TIME] --------------- Well, I figured it out but it took importing someone else's style that was just color changes, change that one to my colors, export it, then import it again, style it some more, export it, this time renaming it to mine, When I imported it the second time, it worked. So I edited the last of the files, exported it again and moved it to my real forum instead of my test forum. Liz |

Hi Liz, I may be having a similar problem but can't figure it out.
I've got 2 dev forums, both 4.0.1 I've edited the default theme immensely and want to upload it to my second dev forum. I go to Styles & Templates > Style Manager, and I download the theme. I name it something other than Default Theme, such as "Bogley Default Theme". And I download it as bogley-vbulletin-style.xml I attempt to import it to my 2nd dev forum and I get the "Invalid File Specified" error. I attempt to import by browsing for the file and/or importing from my install directory. Am I downloading / uploading correctly? Or do I just need to stay with the default filenames while downloading? Either way, I can't seem to make it work. Thanks. |

You have to find a style with MINIMAL changes, change it to your color changes, export it using your name and then import it. THEN you should be able to finish coding it.
See if that works. Liz |

Hi Liz, thanks for the response. I actually found out from another thread that this is a small bug at the moment. I was able to edit the style, just one little line, before I downloaded it, and then I was able to upload it to my other installation.
