Do you have vB Optimise installed? If yes check the thread.. it might take a while to find the post but one option needs to be disabled for it to show correctly... I used to get "New User At" site name and the emails would come from none other than _ until I unchecked the option, I have since then ran into several problems with vB Optimise where on some hosts and servers it was causing display and permission issues so I no longer use it on a 3.8 site tbo due to seeing some issues first hand and them promptly being resolved upon uninstall
