DownloadsII

DownloadsII is a download database that integrates into vBulletin. It allows you to upload files, add images to them, create categories, link to external files - and more. It is very flexible and has many options.

It's also coded 100% XHTML 1.0 Transitional valid, just like vBulletin itself.

Instructions & Support

Requires vBulletin 4.0.4 or higher. Not fully compatible with lower vB 4 versions.
It works fine with both the new editor in vB 4.1.4 or higher and the old one in previous vB versions.

Read the instructions in the next two posts before installing/upgrading this mod!

You can find an installation/upgrade manual in the zip package (Readme.txt).

I try to answer most questions asked in this thread. Please don't send any pm's if I don't ask for them. Don't forget to click the install link, so you will receive important update notifications.

Screenshots & Live demo

At the bottom of this post, you can find some screenshots of the front-end and back-end (AdminCP part) of the DownloadsII software.

You can find a live demo on my own site: Minatica.be Downloads (Dutch).
Though keep in mind that we are running a restyled and modified version of it.

Changelog (version 6.0.9)

Jelle
  • Added support for vB 4.1.8 bit processing with 'each' construct (backwards compatible)
  • Fixed comma listing for vB 4.1.8 (using "old" method)
Older changelogs are included in the zip package.

Help!!! I can't upload large files??

This is probably the most asked question. It's mostly caused by some default PHP settings: check "PHP Max Post Size" and "PHP Maximum Upload Size" at your AdminCP home.

Then have a look at this post for the solution to up these values.
Also have a look at this post at vB.com (but ignore the MySQL part as DownloadsII is only using the file system).

Don't upgrade your live site without any precautions! (This is only when upgrading from v5 and not for clean installs or v6 updates.)

First test the upgrade on a test site, or at least make a database backup before you upgrade your live site. I'm not going to fix your site if it goes wrong

A list of known bugs and feature suggestions:
  • Member.php url's don't support vB4's friendly url's yet (fixed for 6.0.2) - needs more work
  • No integration with vB4's new integrated search or asset manager
  • Tidy up the template XHTML/CSS. I coded it in a rush.
  • Create some widgets for the new CMS and some forum blocks.
  • Better report feature (with threads, mails and pm's)
  • You can't use HTML any more in the category descriptions.
  • Add some more (template) hooks (basics) (fixed for 6.0.2) - needs more work
  • Some strange occasions make the thumbs not to work (mostly long file names and spaces in it?)
  • Add an RSS feed (needs vB 4.0.3 for extra options) (not added in vB 4.0.3 yet, 4.0.4 maybe?)
  • Add a minimum amount of letters for searching
  • Add a setting to specify the maximum amount of search results (until there's search pagination)
  • Add social bookmark icons (should be easy, look at the blog code)
  • Search dropdown has IE issues
  • Implement some usability suggestions for the import feature
  • You get a security token error when logging in after trying to download as guest (security token "guest")

First time installation / Normal Upgrade

1. Upload all files from the upload folder to your forums directory.

2. Import the product-downloads2.xml file at AdminCP -> Plugins & Products -> Manage Products ->
Add/Import Product

3. Change the permissions of the downloads directory (inside your forums directory) to make
it writable (chmod 777).

4. That's it! Now you only need to set your DownloadsII settings, usergroup permissions, categories, ...
And don't forget to add the necessary extensions for file uploads.

Upgrade from DownloadsII 5

You need to upgrade your forum to vBulletin 4 before upgrading DownloadsII.

Note: if you used the "Create New Thread" add-on with v5, don't uninstall it! You will loose the
thread data and the uninstall won't fully work. It will throw database errors.

You need to run DownloadsII 5.0.4 or higher to do this upgrade. Of course we recommend running
version 5.1.1 when doing the upgrade. As already said, you also need to run vB 4 already.
No data (categories, files, ...) will be lost except your ratings as there's a new voting system.

1. Turn your vBulletin forum off to the public to avoid any database errors.

2. Upload upgradetov6.php to the /forums/admincp/ folder on your FTP.

3. Open it with your browser (you need AdminCP access) by surfing to
http://www.yoursite.com/forums/admincp/upgradetov6.php
Follow the online steps. When it's done, go to the next step of these instructions.

4. Remove the upgradetov6.php file from your FTP and do the same with these old 5.x.x files:
- /forums/admincp/downloadadmin.php
- /forums/includes/class_downloads.php
- /forums/includes/xml/bitfield_ecdownloads.xml
- /forums/includes/xml/cpnav_ecdownloads.xml
- /forums/includes/xml/hooks_downloadsII.xml

5. Upload the new files from the upload folder of this package to your forums FTP. Some files will
need to be overwritten.

6. Import the product-downloads2.xml file at AdminCP -> Plugins & Products -> Manage Products ->
Add/Import Product

7. Now redo your usergroup permissions and DownloadsII settings as those things weren't copied over.
And don't forget to add the necessary extensions.

8. Visit your downloads section -> Manage Files -> Update Counters to rebuild the DownloadsII cache.

9. It's ready :-)

Lol, nice to hear that people are appreciating my work a lot by making such a first post

No, there isn't RSS support yet. There's a mod for it for v5, but I absolutely don't recommend it as it's very poorly coded. RSS support is on my todo list.

But hey, there's a report feature in this release. That was requested more
