PNG Collapse Images Not Rotating

I don't get it...I need to use (ie: would REALLY like to use) png images for my collapse_tcat and collapse_tcat_collapsed images, but when I go in and change the extension from gif to png in my templates, they no longer automatically rotate (change when table state is changed).

It works just fine with gifs, but I don't want gifs.

Any ideas?

Why not just use Replacement Variables for this? I would think that would work. As for why it isn't working for you the way you are going about it, have you tried a search in the vbulletin files for those images? I think the javascript actually has them hardcoded (I think, I'm not sure though, but you should try a search for them).

I had a look in some of the js for this, but I didn't see anything about gif images, tho I did see "collapse".

I have no idea what I'm looking at when viewing js, tho.

I'll try replacement variables.

Nope, replacement variables didn't work (well, they worked, but the image won't rotate).
