Default domainx to domainz

did the search, no replies i could really use and/or where for 3.8..

i want to move my current install/db from one domain name to a new domain name, on the same server.. is there a step-by-step to do this, obviously limiting the down time to an absolute minimum.

unfortunately i have no shell access on the server in question.

tks in advance....

If you want to change domain names, then you only have to make your new domain name point to the nameservers. No downtime and your forums can be accessed by both domains.

Unless you want to change domain.com/currentone to domain.com/newone, then you just copy paste the folder. Make sure in your CSS your images are defined by (images/whatever) instead of (domain.com/images/whatever).

Well, I'm inclined to say that you only have to change your nameservers. Are you changing host too?

the domain servers already point to that host.. not changing hosts.

Then I guess you only have to change your board's URL in ACP > Site Name / URL / Contact details > Forum URL, if the other domain won't be active.

could it be that easy.. (where's the easy button :} i still would like to put the whole "forum" folder in the new domain folder (old_domain/forum/ -> new_domain/forum/).. and the old domain name will be redirected for the time being.

Yep, thats the only thing I can think of. As long as your CSS images URL definitions are (images/whatever) instead of (domain.com/images/whatever)

As for ACP > Site Name / URL / Contact details > Forum URL, then put new_domain/forum

You could always backup the domainx/forum, delete it on your webspace and reupload it if theres any problems - to save webspace (thats if you need them).

And anytime!
