I'm pretty sure he is talking about the style used during the beta testing period for 3.0.x. The current style was not finalized and shown to the public until the "Gamma" release.

I remember the style used during the beta period very clearly as I was a fan of it and was using it for a very long time. vBt was one of the sites selected for private beta testing before 3.0.x came out and we were customizing the hell out of that style just for fun.

Here is a thread from vB.com from back when the Gamma release came out, note that it talks about the new style for the 3.0.x series.

To answer the OPs question: As far as I know no one has "ported" that old style to newer versions of 3.x.x as it would be a lot of work. I would like to see someone attempt it though.
