On my forums GAMESNET i need to DONT show the LOGIN user filed as public. I made a new filed called NICKNAME (or PUBLIC NAME TO SHOW), and i changed all variables username in field5 in my templates.
I Only partially solved my problem, becose the LOGIN is still showed in the "STARTER THREAD", in the "MODERATOR" and in the "Posted By:" fileds u can see in the forums... It's VERY important for me solve asap this problem, because all our PORTAL user profiling depends by this. Thx to every one help me. Show Your Support

you have balls the size of grapefruits man. You have WA's portals system, which is provided to contributing members only, remove all of the links back to his site, and than remove all of the vb footer information, and than come in here wanting help.

Hi everyone,
Alphabit, what toratora was suggesting was that you had removed the copyright notice in the Vb footer. It appears that it is now in place so all is well and good ![]() I hope everyone can get along now. As for your problem. I see what you are trying to do and it might be possible by just changing some more templates. The ones you want are the ones that display the forums, so forumdisplay, (moderators listed at top) also some of the elements that make up forumhome. The problem is there are many many places where the username is used and it won't be easy to find them all, other places include buddy list, private messages, calendar, ignore list etc.. also if people are going to send private messages they won't know the username to type it in. IMHO, this is a bad plan. Another way to check would be to use the template search and do a search for the word username. This will find all the instances of username in templates. Hope that helps. |

Dear Chrispaldfield NO-ONE, never touched it.
NEVER. This is a TOTALLY free offense caused by IGNORANCE. -------------------------------------- I already changed all templates post[username] . IN POSTS, PM MESSAGES, USER PROFILE, AND SO ON.... It works FINE there. I cant change the $threadposter and the $moderator[username] variables. If i use $moderator[field5] it's empty (probably not assigned in the record) . For the $threadposter i have no idea how to change it. It seems to be a STATIC name assigned during the post of the thread. |

Footer information:
To be honest i don't care. All that matters is that it is now there. It is hardly worth an argument about. Your Question: It might be impossible to use your extra field for the moderator due to the nature of how the system works. You would need extra SQL calls to get the extra field. The reason is, for example the threadposter is stored in the thread table. If you wanted the name you would have to modify the query to do a JOIN on another table. This will add a significant amount of processing to your system. It is possible but going to require hacking of the files and not just template changes. |

I tought that too. (4 processes i mean...) .
But if the string $threadposter is a STATIC one, i mean if name contained is assigned during the posting of the thread, i think i can assign directly the $userinfo[filed5] from there, without make a new SQL call during showing . I supposed $moderator variable has not the additional field in his record. In fact userid and username works with it... |

yes, that makes sense. Use the newthread.php file and replace the username with your extra field.
as for moderator, not sure. I am not even sure where the mod information is stored in the tables as i have never had to play with that section. but if userid/username works with it then it should work... |
