Artificial inflation in User's Post count

Hello,
Of late, some of my Moderators have raised an issue that there is a sudden increase in their Post Count.

I searched and found that adminpc > maintenance > update post count would fix the issue, but I would like to know what could be the likely root cause for this sudden increase.

The only time I've seen this happen is from a modification.

Thanks for your suggestion. Can you tell me how to troubleshoot which modification is causing this inflation?

Basically you would turn one off and see if you still have the issue. It's kinda hard to troubleshoot something that you can't 'make' happen. Have your mods noticed anything in particular that they do before this happens? Does it happen to all of them at the same time? Does it only happen to the mods or to regular users also? It might help to ask them for more details before trying to troubleshoot this.
