Moving of threads...
I posted a piece of code as a Mod and that thread has now been moved to an Article and I'm not sure that was a good idea...
https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=213665
I'd obviously like this moved back, but failing that, I'd appreciate a comment regarding the points I have raised. If of course you do not want to move it back, by way of an olive branch, may I suggest that an extra SubForum is created in the Mods area as per the following and that it would make sense for it to be placed there? vBulletin 3.8 Modifications PS: Might have been nice for the moderator who did it to send me a PM as to why! |

I am guessing you're referring to this thread: https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthrea...35#post1810535
I would say it doesn't qualify as an addon and doesn't have any plugins or products attached. It does however seem to be a brief tutorial for a specific purpose with a limited scope. Without even looking, this code snippet should work in 3.5, 3.6, 3.7, 3.8, and 4.0. THe staff here have been pretty consistent on what qualifies as an addon and what doesn't. This doesn't. |

For my education, is there somewhere that it describes what an Add-On must have/be?
You may wish to consider my suggestion of an extra SubForum in the "vBulletin <version> Modifications" forum as per the following... vBulletin 3.8 ModificationsPS: Might have been nice for the moderator who did it to send me a PM as it took me a while to work out what had happened to my post! |

I am not staff here so I don't have any say over other forums. Don't really think we need new forums and direct code modifications should not be encouraged.
I think the big difference between your code is that you are telling someone how to add something to their own modifications. You didn't actually provide a worthwhile modification for the average vBulletin customer to install on their forums. I'd say 90% of vBulletin's customers who use addons have no idea of coding their own stuff and just download plugins and products that install via XML. Your code does neither and is limited to a very very small subset of customers. |

We dont need another forum. Simple changes like yours which are not really a modification now go in the tips & tricks forum. Full blown modifications that change code go in the add-ons forum.
