Adsense vs Commission Junction

I've been managing a forum for a few months and just starting to explore generating revenue from ads. I've had adsense for several weeks and even with implementing every mod I can find to influence the ads the google bots consistently post ads that are (mostly) irrelevant to users on my forum. I stumbled onto Commission Junction today, which allows YOU to choose which companies are advertised, where they show up and how frequently.

My forum is geared toward car enthusiasts and somehow the "laser hair removal" ads Google posts don't seem to be very lucrative. What am I missing?
