Hi, I have a forum using vb3.6.9. I know, its old.
Now I think the best time to upgrade my forum. I have no problem upgrading it myself but I am planning to do a clean upgrade. Meaning, I want a fresh vb 3.8.2 with default template and still have my old posts, threads, attachments. How can I do this? Can any of you guys give me step by step to do this? What I want is basically to have the forum cleaned up, removing everything except posts, threads and etc as mentioned above. |

Simply upgrade will still leave all the plugins/mods intact right?
I want fresh. Like the first time you install vb. + members + posts + threads |

Too easy!!
Do a full back up of your current forum. Then upgrade it normally so that you have a 3.8.2 site working. Then do another backup do a clean install of the new file on another file location like a test site. then after you have it all done and set up with just the one forum on it and you as admin, go ahead and do an upload of your database through phpmy admin or any of the other proven methods to restore a database. This will give you the same you will have on the main forum minus al hacks and style themes After you make sure everything works then move the test site to your domain and delete the other one Done |

No I don't know of any way that you can do this on Vbull since most of the hacks are imported via a file mod. See on SMF they are place inside a folder not the case with Vbull I guess you will have to wait for one of the knowledegeable guys here |

What about using this: https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=209890 to clean up the new database?

What i did was (on test server), install the old version of Vb im using on the other server(so the database matches the version). BTW, i had the same 3.6 version. Then upload the database and uninstall all the mods. Only then i did the full upgrade to 3.8.2.
Everything works fine and I have an absolutely clean vb installation. |

Thanks for the advise. I have decided to just upgrade and clean up the forum manually.
Only that products that has been uninstalled such as vba, cyb paypal donation etc are still showing on the left sidebar. Anyway to remove them? |

this is what I would do. (backup)
1st uninstall every modification. 2nd remove all other skins 3rd delete all files 4th upload vbulletin files 5th run the upgrade If everything goes right you should now have a almost perfect clean vbulletin. There is a hack on vb.org that can tell you which tables are from vbulletin and which tables are from hacks, so if a hack left a few tables, you could then manually clean those up after as well. just remember to backup your site first. |
