someone tried to hack into our admin control panel. is there anyway to change the address of the login page or make it safer. It was done by someone who owns a different vb site, so they had the knowledge of where to go.

You can, and should, change the name of the directory your admin and mod cp are located in. Then make sure you change the name of the directory in the config.php file also.
