Hello to all,
So I have a problem I think. When I log into my forums I see all of the new posts, yet when I log off and log back in, they are no longer bold and showing new posts. Is there something that I do not have clicked or something to make them stay in bold stating there are new posts? Thanks Chris |

Check to see what marking system you are using under vboptions > general settings > thread marking type

Ok great, is keeping them on automatic marking wise? I just want people to be able to see posts that are new

You have it set to option 3 - Database (automatic forum marking)? Any of those types should show new posts. However, if you login, then leave, and come back later, the inactivity one will mean that new posts won't be showing as new any longer. However, you can always see new posts in Daily Posts (or whatever it's called under Quick Links).

Yes and the inactivity one was what I had it on, but I had a problem where users were not getting help as people did not see any new posts since there last visit. So I want to hopefully end that problem. But I wonder if it will actually annoy people?

I actually just switched from the cookie/inactivity one to the last option on my forum. I put up a notice explaining the change to my users and told them to make sure to Mark Forums Read when they leave the site the first time to get the marking system working for them. I have a few users grumbling about the new system, but I also added the "Click here to view the latest topics" link (like here) so they can still easily see all the latest topics in a category. No matter what you do, or don't do, you will always have some users grumble - it's inevitable (especially if you have a lot of users).
