Nicecoder has released a plugin for IndexU Deluxe v1.1 to integrate the vBulletin user database.

By using this plugin users of vBulletin can log into IndexU with their vBulletin login.

The vBulletin and IndexU scripts must reside on the same domain.

Attached is the latest version of the plugin that will be included with IndexU Deluxe v1.2. This plugin will work with IndexU Deluxe v1.1, simply overwrite the exisitng files. This plugin fixes some bugs that were found in previous versions.

Note that this plugin is included with IndexU Deluxe, this is just an updaed version.

What's strange is that I subscribed to this thread and until today, I have not received any notifications of replied.

My apologies for not responding sooner.

emtee - IndexU is a directory script. Most users use it for making a directory of websites but there are directories of books, coupons, recipes, yellow pages sites, and lots more. It's a very versatile script.

Marco - I am in fact a part owner of Nicecoder and do most of the support for Nicecoder as well.

R1D1 - To be honest, I haven't tested whether it can be on a different domain or not, but the programmers have told me it needs to be so I defer to them. I'll talk to them about the possibility of being able to use it off domain as well.

I'm not sure I understand what to do with this download at all. Does it get installed as a plugin in vbulletin or is it an indexu install only? There's not a word of instructions or even a readme or anything in this archive -- just 4 files and not a word of explanation..

Can anyone guide me on this please? I've got indexu deluxe running and vbulletin is running on my site too but I haven't a clue how to use this patch to tie the two products together.

Thanks.

It's an IndexU plugin, and it's included with version 1.21 if that is what you have.

Log into the admin panel, go to plugins, click on enable. Then you enter the path to your vbulletin install.

Thanks very much. That may be all I needed. How about adding a short doc file to the archive that explains exactly how to install it and what it's supposed to do (i.e. how behaviors should change) on both sides of the product fence once it is up and running?

I'm gonna go try it now.

Thanks!

I also managed to get this plug-in installed and find it works fairly well. These preliminary docs written by user "echo" should help installers understand where and how to install the integration and know how it works.

For the record, I've used IndexU for 4 years and recommend it to my hosting clients. Their new deluxe product makes a very nice monetizable add-on to a vBulletin site AND it comes complete with six customizable skins (templates).

Thanks for the docs, Echo!

Vbulletin plugin works fine on vb 3.8.1. and below

The only thing that does not work yet is autologin

/**

* INDEXU PLUGIN
* idx2vb
* Version 1
* Copyright(C), Nicecoder, 2008, All Rights Reserved.

*/

---------------
I. Introduction
---------------
(Indexu - Vbulletin intergation) The Idx2vb plugin (Ver 1) enables the indexu deluxe script to use vbulletin's user database,
disabling the indexu userdatabase (So this plugin is ideal for fresh installations).
Indexus Member area for front end users works exactley the same for link editing but using a registered vbulletin username.
The Idx2vb plugin will also automatically redirect the following urls to vbulletin (register.php, send_pwd.php, change_pwd.php, profile.php)

The plugin does not intergate indexu template headers and footers, this would have to done manually

-----------------
II. Installation
-----------------

1. Unzip or copy the package plugin in your plugin folder.

2. Login as admin, browse all admi menu, then find plugin menu :

Plugin > View all

3. Find idx2vb plugin and click install.

------------------------------------
III. Configuration
------------------------------------

- After you install this plugin and set it active, scroll down to your plugin area at the bottom of the indexu admin backend.

You will then find the Idx2vb plugin configuration settings page which contains two paths to be configured to get indexu to see vbulletin correctly.

First is "vbulletin URL" which basically points indexu to vbulletin's "Absolute path"
Absolute path's include the domain name so and example would be

http://www.yourdomain.com/community/

Also when configuring this path please make sure you put the trailing slash on the end

Second is the "vbulletin Root path" which is your Relative Path to vbulletin installation.
Here is an example:

/home/yoursite/public_html/community/

Also when configuring this path please make sure you put the trailing slash on the end also

Then click submit

Once the plugin is correctly configured you will be logged out and taken back to the indexu login screen.

You can now login to the Indexu backend with your vBulletin "admin" credentials.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

As Echo notes, this integration isn't perfect yet. However, except for the dual login, it does work as described.

So, if you'd like to include a comprehensive links directory AND search engine as part of your vB site PLUS be able to monetize those links, then Indexu Deluxe is definitely worth a close look.
