I have 3.6.8 p2 with quite a few extra hacks. I would like to upgrade 3.8 but not sure how, can I just jump over 3.7 and do I need to upgrade all those hacks or will they be fine?

Yes you can upgrade directly to 3.8. If you modifications need an update you will need to check in the threads of these modifications.

I just did this exact same upgrade and first did it on my test site to see which modifications still worked and which ones needed to be upgraded or removed.
