Help, hosting account suspended because of spam!

I originally posted this over on vB.com but I'm not getting much response so wondering if anyone here has any ideas..



My hosting account was suspended yesterday because of spam originating from my forum's index.php file/page. The email they sent me says:

"Your account has been suspended because spam has been sent through your scripts, i.e X-PHP-Script: www.**********.co.uk/forum/index.php"

I don't even know what that means tbh, apparently that script/page/file/? was sending out thousands of emails. I was running 3.7.3 but have now been given access to upgrade and have upgraded to 3.7.5.

Does anyone have any idea if that will have solved the problem?

I need to get the site back up asap but don't even really know what I'm looking for.

Do you have human verification on for everything? Also according to that url, its the base index.php which doesnt sent out emails.

Yeah the url is confusing me too. Could it be a mod something running one that page? (I really am clueless as to what is going on so just guessing)

The index.php script does not send emails period. Either your host is quite wrong or something is wrong with your vbulletin install.

There is one possibility I can think of - the emails are originating from a scheduled task. I would ask your host to give you a copy of the email they think is spam.

You'll need to get the URL that is generating the emails along with the email itself.

Its possible I suppose that you've sent to many emails over a certain amount of time, and the hosting company doesn't approve of sending so many.

As far as I know noone has sent any emails at all from the forum, besides we have around 500 members and they're claiming that there's thousands of emails being sent.

I'm phoning them again today I'll ask for a copy of the email.
