Those are modes of transportation, not methods of communication.

Holographic viewers and faster speeds than you have now. We basically already have the communicators (cellphones), tricorders (palm pilots, mobile windows devices), and video communications potrayed even in the earliest Star Trek movie. Heck we even have the automatically opening doors. For the communications, we just need to make it faster.

Previously processor power doubled every 18 months. Now we need to work on increasing bandwidth speeds every 18 months. Moving the data across countries and around the world is where its going to be. Its probably 10 years before we begin to reach the potential of fiber optics. Now we are just scratching the surface. With wireless communications, squeezing more data into a smaller radio burst will be key so digital compression will be big. Or we'll have more devices that use multiple datastreams to piece the information together. But if I can get HD television on over 150 channels from a satellite, it isn't long before that kind of information is two way.

I think i read not so long ago that 3D-televisions are also close to go into production. (but since no 3D channels yet, i guess it will take a few years before it is picked up)

I actually saw this a few weeks ago...

http://www.theregister.co.uk/2008/12...all_broadcast/

American 'football' goes 3D

It was also in my local paper since I live in Boston and that was one of the areas they were trying it out I guess. Seems pretty cool.

sorry, i meant Tricorder, not Transponder... kids all around, and you loose all ideas.

btw, the iPhone is close to the tricorder already, with all the apps, and the new generation to come which communicate directly with other apps on your wi-fi... (you can actually but require a list of tweaks on your computer)

Google will power our homes with wireless energy, and charge us nothing but give us the option to insert adsense stickers on our windows whilst in beta stage.
