If I made a site, like YouTube, but instead of people being able to submit videos and music, there are pages, where I have popular songs already there, including lyrics.

So people, instead of downloading/buying songs, can listen to them for free?

Is this allowed if I made a new website for it? Or is this illegal?

illegal until you have the approval of the author of each song...

remember that youtube is about personal videos... if you have personal songs, uploaded by the authors, then you simply have to have the kind of ToS as YouTube and you're ok...

Yes, I know it's about personal videos, but around half of the videos there are music videos (or atleast 1/4). So I was just wondering.

First off, never take legal advice from users on a forum. We aren't lawyers.

Secondly, no, I believe that would not be legal.

Whoops, accidentally hit Post when I got sidetracked by a kid....

Anyway, I think if you put up studio versions of the songs, you would get in trouble. If the band is taper friendly, you can probably put up live versions of the songs and they would have no problem with that.

As for lyrics, again, you need to be careful. I know a fan website of a band that got a Take Down notice for their section of the site where they shared the lyrics. So, get band permission and you should be OK.

Have up a good disclaimer, tos etc., then when contacted, removed those songs, until then your good to go lol

It goes without saying that you remove the song As Soon As you are contacted!!! Seriously. And always be friendly and courteous when contacted.

So if I put any official song, downloaded from iTunes or something, It'd be illegal?

(For anyone interested in knowing: There will be NO videos, only a small radio application playing the song.)

if you provide things for free when you purchased them, yes it is against the TOS of the service you bought them from... this is pure piracy... and you know it, so i don't see why you ask.
