Default I am going to buy VBulletin today but,

I have some questions of course.

I have read through some threads allready and I guess I need to clarify a few things.

Sorry if this thread is dumb.

1. Different colored usernames can be done by DownLoading mods?

2. Hostgator or bluehost are good? Can be used with VBullentin?

3. I am looking to start my own forum. If I have a host and VBullentin is that good enough to start or do I need to buy bandwidth aswell?

4. Different stlyes or templets are to be Downloaded?

Simple questions I know but any help would be appreciated.

Thank you.

1. Different coloured usernames is a default feature.
2. Yes, they can be used with vBulletin, but I have no experience with them.
3. Bandwidth is included with the hosting plan.
4. Many styles can be downloaded for free here. Alternatively, there are many paid styles out there.

1- this is a default config if you want these styles to be per usergroups, but can be possible via a addon if you want your users to select their own style.
2- Hostgator.com have their own official forum using vBulletin, it's a good guess if it work well there!
3- when you buy a package for hosting, you have host but also a certain bandwidth... the more you pay, the more bandwidth you have.. a startup is possible with any package.
4- there are some free styles here, you see the tab on top right of this page... but you can search google: "vbulletin style" .... for some paid ones too

Only problem with hostgator is you can only have 25 consecutive connections to the mysql database. My forum is on hostgator and sometimes I hit that mark. If you are looking at having a massive site, you may need someone else. You can always start on hostgator and then upgrade from there. I am happy with them though.

Actually, SVT, this is false. you have a limit of 25 sql connections because you have a baby or lower account and you do not want to pay the high-end accounts to fit your needs, that's why you find it sad. When you have 25+ more online users, a minimal account is not fitting the needs... sure you can have this kind of situation with a ton of other web hosts, it's not only on hostgator...

I never said I was sad, I said I was happy with them. I rarely hit the 25 mark so there is no need to have anything larger. Once the site gets larger and it becomes an issue, then I will upgrade. It is not a limit of 25 users online, it is a limit of 25 connections to mysql at one time. But I have had other hosting companies running vb and have not had a 25 limit on the mysql so that is why I brought it up. I can only speak about my situation.

actually if you have a need for more connections, you can ask the support staff... one of the guys will surely answer your request for more, without any cost, as it's part of support... i suppose it's the same with a lot of other providers... .lol

btw, this is not the place to discuss Hostgators service... this is pre-sales for vBulletin... you will have to ask at vBulletin.com for more services...

No modification needed. Can be achieved with standard vBulletin features

I'd use bluehost over hostgator. Go around and read some web hosting reviews to find out more. Don't trust sites that give feedback based on affiliate commissions
