Install the thanks mod? Answers?
Just a suggestion, always seeing people giving a thank via post. Not to mention I've done so a load of times. Not sure how many people would use this sarcastically but hey
The answers mod will also help for the places where members are seeking help here. I know a lot of people often resort to threads posted by others when trying to solve an issue, and I've seen loads of posts beginning with "...after going through x posts and finally finding the answer..." Again, just a suggestion |

I'm doubting they'd add it, since despite the last ten or so times it's been requested, it's never been added, as if they have something against installing third party modifications (which is actually quite ironic for a vBulletin Modifications Resource or whatever). I'd still second this...
There goes my easy post count... |

We don't have anything against third party modifications, but we won't incorporate something if it is not really needed. We'll discuss whether or not the Post Thank You modification would benefit the community, though I personally think it is counter productive in communication between community members. (I could be wrong though!)
And I'm unaware of what the answer mod is... |

I understand what you mean, definitely. But i also understand that although we have great interaction between members, there are some forums where these modifications will benefit.
Post thanks would help a great deal around here. I love when i get posts thanking me for a modification, it's great motivation. However, what about the other threads that are more focused on general things and just just someone's modifications? Sometimes seeing all of the "agreed" or "i second this", gets in the way of browsing through actual responses (we have loads of members here). So maybe a thank you, or even a "second this" option would help? I think the thanks mod (with maybe a little comment box or something if need-be) would be great for situations like this. General threads where information is being given, etc. As for the answers modifications, a great percentage of the threads posted here contain a question regarding vbulletin software. A great percentage of those threads are posted more than one time. Installing the answers modification (if you guys need a premium version, i'll donate it brand-free if needed, just feel it'd be a great addition) would make it easier for users to find their answers. Not to mention it'd save the people who gives answers around here a lot of time and allow them to focus more on new/unanswered questions, when they have time to spare. Answer Forums 1.0.0 |

I would prefer renaming INSTALLED to THANK YOU over adding another 'option'.
Adding more features is counter productive. It becomes confusing... Things start getting cluttered... Usability drops... Page generation increases... |

If you guys would listen to anything I've said, my aim is to reduce cluttering.
Thanks + Answers = less posts to do these things. Answer Forums adds a copy of the answer to the poster's question under the first post, that makes things more confusing? I can guarantee you I can find negativity in every suggestion that can possibly be made in any website, as you guys obviously can do as well. But I can also open my eyes and see opportunity, or at least try and be optimistic about things. Princeton, I see you're at least open to some kind of change. However, for the modification aspect of things, i think "installed" works pretty well. |

We've read your post fine, insulting our comprehension skills isn't going to help your suggestions at all. Yes, adding a Thank You system may reduce clutter in threads, but it will increase clutter within the Postbit and could confuse new members.
Your suggestion may shed light on an entirely different problem, that perhaps the current thread implementation for Modifications is not working because there is a distinct separation of content: some members want to introduce bugs and get support while other want to display their gratification for a good product. So yes, this problem should be addressed, but is a Thank You modification really the answer? We (the staff) can incorporate every suggestion easily, and yes it will increase our popularity with some members, but that is not our job here - our job is to ensure the success of the community and sometimes that means rejecting suggestions or taking members suggestions and discussing them internally. |

No one was insulting your comprehension skills, i was questioning whether or not you jumped to a negative though before comprehending.
That being said, you made some great points. Any reason all the responses can't be like this? You're right, this is a problem that needs to be addressed. My aim was to notify you of the problem and offer a few solutions, my hope is that you'll take my words and use your comprehension skills and administration skills in order to produce a solution that will benefit us. And you guys were saying things like "this stop this" or "this contradicts that." But er, is "this" really the place for "that"? Get what i mean? Anyways, just hoping you guys can come up with a few solutions to various issues that have been circling this website for a bit now. You guys have been doing a great job. No major complaints lately, most of the people are happy, but issues like this are still existent as you are aware of. Hopefully something's done. |
