I have some members who have very slow connections. Is there a style that would work for a quick and easy loading of the forum for them?

keep the default vB style.. it loads quite fast..

You could try https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=174375 although the easiest thing to do would just create a new style and remove all the images (from backgrounds e.t.c.)
