Hi,
Since I have upgraded to v3.7, I am getting an average of 10 new registrations a day - all spam. I have the image verification turned on during registration but it seems this is being bypassed somehow. The only thing that is stopping these getting access to the whole site is that I have admin approval turned on. Has anyone got an idea on how I can stop this? I run a very small site and I am now getting more spam daily that I have legitimate members! Thanks in advance |

Try posting a link to your site, it would help for us to see if its actually working.

It is physically working, so i doubt its a bot doing the registrations, there is no know public exploit that has been posted about at vbulletin.com of a bot being able to bypass the image verification.
Did you try the other two options that are now included in the human verification system in the admincp? |

thanks for the reply - I will give the other options a try - must admit to not having spent too much time checking out all the new options :erm:
It just seems odd that I have gone from no spam registrations at all, to having approx 10 a day after upgrade. Unless there are people out there searching for 3.7 to register. |

i have been notified by a security company that there are "hackers" paying to people to register on forums with vbulletin (all version) being one of the major targets.. real people register several accounts (depending on the size of the forum) and a few days later (probably) some bot starts replying to random posts with links.. or they reply with a generic "thank you" or "interesting" and have links in their signature.. i had a lot of problem with those in the last few days.. banning solved the issue but my board is pretty small..
i know this doesn't really help but at least you know what's going on.. i'm not sure about laws governing this kind of attacks and would be really glad if someone could say a word about that so i know where to report the spammers.. |

We also have an increase of (human aided) spam bots lately. Something we have to deal with, part of the life of an admin.

vBulletin has a spam prevention hack now coming natively with 3.7.1 and I hope it can help..
