Im using version 3.7.0 and things all seem to be working ok.
The default "no avatar" image is shown, but seem unable to add either from uploading direct to the avatar storage location, or importing. I get the error message "This JPEG image has the incorrect file extension." Given that the avatars are gif's, thats not surprising! Looking in the CP, I have checked to make sure gifs are acceptable and they are. Probably an easy one to solve - but have spent too much time searching for a solution already! Anyone have any pointers? |

Go to Usergroups > Usergroup Manager > select the usergroup to edit > go to Can Upload Custom Avatars > Yes and Can Upload Animated Avatar > Yes and then check the sizes below to make sure they are what you want them set at. Do this for every usergroup you want to have avatars.

Ive done this, but am still getting this error: This JPEG image has the incorrect file extension. The avatar I am uploading as "admin" is just a very small gif file 80x60 and isnt animated. It fits inside all the parameters as far as physical size and volume. It is a gif file - yet the error is saying it isnt a jpeg! So its something inside VB that needs to tell it that avatars are gifs (as well!) The image manage is set to accept gifs, so Im baffled where else to look! Site is www.voltdeals.com if that helps |

Try disabling your plugins and then see if you still have this problem.
Note: To temporarily disable the plugin system, edit config.php and add this line right under <?php PHP Code:
Also, doyou have a test account on your site where we can try this out? |

I will PM you some details. Is it just a user test account - or do you need admin rights? |

I just want a test account to try to upload an avatar with. Usually people will make a test account with username "test" and with a password and make sure that account has regular user permissions - in other words, make sure the usergroup for the test account is the same as for your regular users, usually the Registered Usergroup. That way we can see what they see.

I just logged on and I was able to upload both a .gif and a .jpg just fine on the test account you set up for me. Have you tried logging into the test account and uploading avatars?

Yes, I tried on the test account! Would it be something on the PC? Ive tried it from 2 PCs here and get the same! How odd!!!!! --------------- Added [DATE]1210373509[/DATE] at [TIME]1210373509[/TIME] --------------- Lynne, I just tried again on one machine with IE7 and Firefox and get the problem. Used another PC on the same network in Opera and IE7 and it works! You now you now have your VB forum avatar visible! So does it sound more like a PC thing rather than VB? (Silly question probably!!!!) Have you come across this problem before? |

Maybe it is something with that particular jpg. Maybe it really isn't a valid jpg, as the message seems to kinda imply. I know the two I uploaded are valid for vb since I have uploaded each to my site before. Where did you get the image? Are you sure it is a valid jpg?
