Sadly many geeks like myself live in "white trash redneck towns" where it's still more important to know how to turn a wrench than it is to work on these new fangled adding machines. Thankfully I can do both but you'd never be able to tell just by looking.

I've also found my luck with women to be sub-par... Sure they are very interested in me until Mr. I work at kinkos and have a nice car that my parents paid for walks up. Of course lately I've realized I'm after the wrong type of woman (hint: they suck down liquor like water and get passed around like a pogo-stick).

At any rate I hear where you're coming from and know I need a change in environment. But I must disagree with you on geeks living the high life. Most geeks I know drive compact Japanese cars and still live with their parents.

I would say that has to do with genetics and background lighting of your work area vs. computer scrn.

I was half-joking when I posted that.

My eyesight is still 20/20 as far as I know...have not had it tested in years. I can drive down a backroad at 100mph in the middle of the night with the headlights off if that gives you any idea on how good my sight is (don't ask why I'm doing this....it's part of my personal training ).

What I do get is "strain" on the eyes from working in front of my CRT for extended hours. I'm sure there is some long term damage but again I've yet to notice it when doing other things.

The thing I hate most is the ones that say that the forum community sucks and there's too many noobs and it was better just last week and blah blah blah.

I also hate being the "main admin" and having EVERYONE PM/e-mail me with their problems. Not just forum problems, like permissions screwing up or something but PERSONAL problems. Like I've had to mediate a fued between two members lately over who a FICTIONAL CHARACTER should be shipped with. (There were death threats being passed around)

I seriously go "People, wtf, get a life."

I must say: 'dislike'

But most of that come from a feeling of being treated unfairly

Hmmm then it depends what kind of a geek you are...there are the ones that are knowledgeable, the ones that just act geeky cause they are weird, the ones that become geeks cause no one else will take them as friends... I dunno. I guess also, if they choose to continue living the live at home, eat chips and program lifestyle, they would end up like that.
