posting a dates

When posting a dates sometimes they are wrapped in ( ) ie (4-13-2008) and with it being 2008 when posting a date or for that matter a numbered list with a 8 before a ) we get a face smile that replaces the number 8 and have to go back and edit it to 8 ). Can the code be edited to eliminate this issue?
