Suggestions/Advice - Anymedia Center
Ok dunno if this is ever done here, but I wanted to post up my idea and hear feedback, suggestions on things I could be missing and go from there.
While at a convention today I had no chair and sat on a potted plant to sketch all this so please excuse not the best sketch job, and if anything needs cleaned up, which it probably does I'll redo a whole set of graphics to show exactly what I'm saying. --------------------------------------- What I want to do or have made, not just for me, and in general for everyone here, is a section of our forums or product that we can put any type of embedded object in. Whether it be movies, games, tv episodes, you tube, photobucket, I don't care. I want NO restrictions on what people could embed. To describe the product or mod quickly it's like this. As an Admin I want to embed content or display content on certain custom vb pages, I want the pages to auto generate by inserting only the embed code and titling the embedded object. I want a rating system and a comment system on each page. You could kind of think of this like a Video Gallery and it's kind of similar to Hulu, without being solely TV and Movie capable, and probably similar to VBYes Vtubepro product. But again, either going to be free or very low cost 5 to 20 bucks, AND NO restrictions on what you can embed. So here are my rough sketches: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...rolsSketch.jpg As you can see I came up with some basic commands that I thought were necessary. Obviously at some point we need control of what we're embedding. I honestly would prefer to keep this controlled by Admins only, as big boards out there that allowed everyone to embed "anything" could get out of hand fast with spammers and trolls. We'd need control to delete categories, or media. We also need edit functions for renaming and renumbering the order. Onto Shot 2: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...trolspart2.jpg I'd like to use a 10 point rating system and just for fun I think a "text" rating would be cool and make the system more personable rather than just a number. This was all done quickly so some text might not have been the best choice, I also had some where I slashed as I didn't know which was the better option. This cp screen would allow you to choose for the 10 stars each what text it displays with the main command line stating Users Think This Is ___________________________ I have to say This as it could be a game, video, movie, whatever. This is very similar to the system Reputation uses where its like User Is ______________________ Shot 3 http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...nPageWCats.jpg Ok the main page of this system needs to be somewhere so a link in the navbar, or URL redirect of a forum would work to. Basically I couldn't figure out the best way to organize all the media, and I understand many of you might disagree but I highly suggest a system without thumbnails. I mean once you get over around 30 videos on a page, it takes a good amount of time for it to load all the thumbnails. I mean just take a look: http://www.legionofangels.net/forum/...-lights-2.html That is a page that has 10 videos on it and see how long it takes for all the thumbnails to load. That is the reason why many of the vid systems out there don't do a ton of vids on a page because the load times would be slow. Even here in there demo of vbTubePRO which is a good product, no doubt about it. http://www.vbyes.com/forum/vbTubePRO.html They only show 15 or so a page, again load times will be affected via thumbnails, and a screen with 4000 vids in text format would show up instantly or really fast. So I'm suggesting that you organize categories in collapse boxes, which are all over our forums, for forum categories, the what's going on box, etc. Then hyperlink all the videos within the collapsed box: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...edMenuOpen.jpg I really honestly cannot think of a better way to organize the media, maybe an A to Z list on the top of the page similar to the member list, where people could look up by alphabet, maybe A to Z list within a collapse box if possible. Therefore ensuring that the media is nice and tucked away and organized decently within a collapsed section. Last Image http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...ObjectPage.jpg This is what would happen if you hit one of the links in your Categorized Collapseable screens. You go to an individual I'm assuming dynamically created page for the vid/game/movie you wanted to view. We put the embedded object in a nice table, such as what we've already done on our site here: http://www.legionofangels.net/forum/loaflash.php YOU have to be on our Default Style to View that Page. Below that we have our Rating with the 10 stars, orbs, whatever. Text Rating, Graphic Array of the Rating. We could do an embed, share, email below that, sup to whoever. Then we have a basic non-wysiwyg comment system, and the comments appear below the enter field. ----------------------------------------------------------- So that's it. It's a system where you can embed anything, keep them organized, a professional layout that will definitely work with your style ID's, and the basic comment system will disable additional HTML from being used plus I don't think the comments would look good if they looked like posts, I mean avatars, ranks...no no just keep it simple. ----------------------------------------------------------- The twisted irony of all of this is that we as in my site probably won't use this "product" or add on if made, because I'm going to embed a certain amount of items, and then be done with it...I think. So I'll probably have to do this the hard way and copy/paste templates and change urls and titles and group the templates and such, indifference to using this system. We have found a script for the comment system, we found some rating systems but not exactly what I was looking for yet, we know how to embed the HTML that's simple. But unfortunately we don't know XML and we don't know how to make a product. I think the vBulletin owners and communities could do well with a system like this and while it may seem kind of bare and simple to most of you, the barer it is the more possibilities you leave open to the end user. We found the custom pages script at vb.com and there are some around here at org to. Since we might not use this or probably won't, we have no need to make an actual product for everyone else but we might consider doing it so that if people want this, well..you now have the option to have it. Would really like to hear feedback, comments and suggestions, or even criticism. As far as a coder we can supply you with what we have, if you'd like to do this, it would then become your own release, not ours. Thanks for reading, Legion of Angels |
