Upgrading to 3.7 from 3.6.8
I have a few questions regarding the upgrade from 3.6.8 to 3.7
1) What happens with custom styles? Will they work? 2) What about styles with template edits? Will they have to be re-done, or will they remain? 3)Do you think most modifications will work or is 3.7 too much of an upgrade from 3.6.8? |

1) What happens with custom styles? Will they work? Yes....
2) What about styles with template edits? Will they have to be re-done, or will they remain? Custom edits will stay but new additions such as Ad Location need to be inserted into the relevant spots 3)Do you think most modifications will work or is 3.7 too much of an upgrade from 3.6.8? Yes...I have experienced 3.6.8 to 3.7 and all my mods worked. |

Thats because the person from vb.com is correct.
You shouldn't use a "custom style" for a version of vb that its not made for 1st of all, if the "custom style" isn't updated to function with the version your using it on, then you shouldn't use it. There are a # of reasons, to name a few, bug fixes, coding in the template for new features etc.... So to say it quickly, always revert your templates, even if it isn't a "custom style" and you've only made changes for hacks/add-ons. |

So I don't understand how I will be able to add all my edits back after I upgrade, for Hacks and things??? Sorry if I sound stupid, but I am not great at this stuff |

You just add the edits back by editing the template. I just compare the old (my) template to the new (vb default) template by clicking on View History. The differences are outlined there and then I pick and choose what needs to be changed.

vB also highlights what templates need to be changed...so you might see 10 templates need updating...just go through each one and make changes to suit.
The vb team would recommend reverting to the default because it's best practice but for me, I guess I knew what I was doing so the shift wasn't anything big. |
